12 THINGS I’M AFRAID TO TELL YOU ABOUT MY ART

  • Sometimes I have no idea what to name my paintings (and use the song title of whatever I’m listening to.)
  • I feel sad that I can’t earn enough to allow my husband to retire now.
  • I didn’t start painting until I was 50.
  • I find a lot of art gallery shows boring (and many, many, fantastically compelling.)
  • I’m terrified of life drawing (and also really ‘bad’ at it.)
  • I’m the happiest that I’ve ever been, now that I’m painting. I’m afraid to say it in case it goes away.
  • It troubles me to see so many talented artists not believing in themselves.
  • I never plan out in detail what I’m going to paint.
  • I paint intuitively and worry that I won’t be taken seriously because of this.
  • I’m sometimes terrified of being ‘found out’ – imposter syndrome is alive and kicking.
  • Art is everything to me, and at the same time, nothing.
  • I have nightmares that I won’t live long enough to paint all the art I need to.
