10 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF ABOUT A PIECE OF ART
Have you ever wandered around an art gallery or a show and wondered; I don’t even know where to start with this- what am I supposed to think? Of course there is no right or wrong way to view art. But to prompt a discussion, even if it’s only in your head- here are 10 questions you might like to ask yourself about a painting, or any work of art.
- What was your first reaction to this piece?
- Where do you feel this painting in your body? In your head, your gut? Does it make you tingle?
- Is it balanced?
- What five verbs would you use to describe this piece of art?
- Have your feelings changed the longer you look at it?
- What one question would you ask the artist?
- Could you live with this piece of art?
- Could you live without it?
- What is its title? Does the title give you any more insight into the painting?
- What do you think this painting tells you about the artist?
